What is a Letter of Intent to Homeschool?
A homeschool letter of intent is just a written notice letting your local school district or state know that you’re planning to homeschool your child instead of sending them to public or private school.
Many states require this document by law when you start homeschooling. This letter does a few important things:
01
✓ Lets the school district know your child will be learning at home.
02
✓ Shows you’re following your state’s homeschool rules.
03
✓ Formally withdraw your child from public school (if currently enrolled).
Most U.S. states don’t require a formal letter of intent (LOI) to homeschool, but many do. Check your state DOE or HSLDA site for a specific homeschool notice form.
